On October 19, 23 and 26, 2019, Riccardo Massi will sing Calaf in Turandot at the Metropolitan Opera, in the legendary Franco Zeffirelli production and under the musical direction of Maestros Yannick Nézet-Séguin and Marco Armiliato. He will share the stage with Christine Goerke in the title role, Eleonora Buratto and Gabriella Reyes as Liù, and James Morris as Timur.
Riccardo Massi considers Calaf as one of his favorite and most performed roles, having it sung in several high-profile productions for major opera companies, including a new production at the Bregenz Festival, a spectacular open-air mise-en-scène at the Sydney Harbor for Opera Australia (which was recorded and released on DVD by ABC Classic DVD), as well as productions is in Zurich, Stockholm and Mexico. The Italian born tenor is a familiar name to the Met audience, having already performed as Radames in Aida in the 2011/2012 and 2016/2017 seasons.
After this Met Turandot, Riccardo Massi’s upcoming engagements include Cavaradossi in Tosca at the Semperoper Dresden and the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Radames in Aida and a gala concert at the Mikhailovsky Theatre Saint Petersburg, Manrico in Il trovatore at the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, a role debut as Zamoro in Alzira at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège, Liège, and a house debut as Des Grieux in Manon Lescaut at the Teatro Carlo Felice Genoa.
